"Take control of your consistent emotions and begin to consciously and deliberately reshape your daily experience of life." — Tony Robbins
Your emotions play an important role in your health and well-being. So often we think only of our physical body when it comes to health but balancing your emotions is a big contributor to overall wellness. Research suggests there’s even a correlation between specific emotional conflicts and certain cancers.
The foods you eat can have a positive impact on your mood and emotions. Studies show that consuming 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day will put you in a better mood. And, when you’re in a good mood you are more likely to eat a healthier diet.
A great way to help balance emotions, like depression and stress, is with exercise. Exercise or being physically active is a good way to clear your mind. If you don’t have time to get a traditional workout in, be active in other ways.
A key to starting and maintaining an exercise program is to make it part of your daily routine. Do it the same time every day or schedule it on your calendar.
Fragrances can influence you mood and emotions too. They are the fastest way to reach the mood center of the brain, which is through the limbic system. The best source for pure, natural fragrances is essential oils. They’re the easiest, and safest, way to get specific scents to elicit a desired effect.
To get the most benefit, use essential oils aromatically. Here’s how:
- Open a bottle and inhale the scent. Or place a drop or two of oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, cup them over your nose, and take several slow, deep breaths.
- Use them in a diffuser which disperses oil molecules into the air as a fine mist.
- Make a spray bottle with distilled water and witch hazel and spray on your pillow, article of clothing, or even yourself.
Room Spray Recipe
- 4oz glass spray bottle
- 2tsp witch hazel
- 12-15 drops essential oil
- Distilled water to fill
- Add all ingredients to spray bottle.
- Shake well before use.
Suggested essential oils: Citrus Fresh, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon, Stress Away, Peace & Calming, or Valor.
A word of caution, not all essential oils are created EQUAL. Many are derived with harsh chemicals, have been diluted, or are produced synthetically in a lab. It’s super important for your health and safety to purchase high quality oils from a trusted source!
Another thing that can really help it so become aware of how situations, circumstances, and events affect you emotionally as they are happening. Then CHOOSE how you respond. It’s a great way to keep your emotions in check.
